Kirsty Wark accuses MasterChef host Gregg Wallace of making ‘sexualised’ jokes


Former Newsnight host Kirsty Wark has accused MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace of making inappropriate sexual comments during the filming of Celebrity MasterChef. Wark is one of 13 individuals who have come forward with allegations against Wallace, prompting him to step away from his long-running role after complaints of misconduct.

The allegations of Wallace making inappropriate sexual comments span across a 17-year period, with incidents occurring on various shows. Wark revealed that Wallace made “sexualised” jokes in front of contestants and crew during the filming of Celebrity MasterChef, making her feel uncomfortable and out of place. Other accusations include Wallace discussing his sex life openly, undressing in front of a female worker, and making inappropriate comments to a junior female colleague.

Although Wallace was previously warned by the BBC in 2018 after a complaint was lodged against him, further incidents have now been brought to light. An investigation into his behaviour began in the summer, covering incidents from five different shows between 2005 and 2022. Wallace’s legal team denies the claims of sexually harassing behaviour and he is currently cooperating with the investigation launched by MasterChef’s production company Banijay UK.

In response to the complaints, the BBC has initiated an external review to thoroughly investigate the historical allegations of misconduct against Wallace. Meanwhile, Wallace has decided to step away from his role on MasterChef during the investigation process. Banijay UK has reiterated its commitment to the well-being of its staff and stated that any allegations of misconduct are taken seriously and addressed appropriately.
