Lanarkshire drivers warned of urgent resurfacing works on the M74

Drivers in Lanarkshire have been advised about urgent resurfacing works taking place on the M74. The warning comes after the hard shoulder surface on the southbound M74, north of Junction 10, has deteriorated. This section is currently part of a contraflow for the Nethan Viaduct bridge works, prompting the need for immediate resurfacing works. To facilitate this, a closure of the southbound M74 between Junctions 9 and 12 is being enforced.

The closure aims to ensure the safety of both road users and workers during the essential resurfacing works and ongoing bridge maintenance, which is anticipated to continue until 2025. The closure will be in effect from 8pm to 6am each night until Sunday, December 1. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Monday, December 2, reverting to contraflow operations for the bridge works. Another closure is scheduled from 8pm on Saturday, December 7, to 6am on Sunday, December 8, before returning to contraflow for further bridge and resurfacing works on the northbound carriageway.

Amey, the company responsible for the works, announced that a diversion will be in place for southbound traffic during the closures. Drivers will be redirected to leave the M74 at Junction 9 and follow the B7078 to rejoin the motorway at Junction 12. Apologies were extended for the short notice of these closures and any inconvenience caused.
