Last few days to donate to Hamilton Advertiser toy appeal

Donations for the Hamilton Advertiser toy appeal are still open until December 9th, and the community is rallying together to ensure as many families as possible have gifts under the tree this Christmas. With only a few days left, generous readers, locals, and businesses are urged to contribute toys, games, books, and vouchers to spread the festive joy in Hamilton.

A recent highlight for the appeal was the overwhelming support from Asda in Hamilton, where staff and customers filled six trolleys with a variety of Christmas presents. The collected items, which range from baby toys to toiletries for teenagers, will be sorted and distributed by the Salvation Army in the town. Grateful for the incredible generosity, community colleague Gillian Summers expressed her thanks to everyone involved in the collection efforts.

The toy appeal has been an annual tradition for over a decade, with last year’s donations reaching 1300 gifts. Organisers are hopeful that this year’s contributions will match or surpass that number. Captain Wendy Leisk of the Hamilton Salvation Army emphasised the importance of providing age-appropriate gifts for children of all ages, including gift vouchers which are particularly useful for teenagers.

In addition to physical donations, cash contributions and gift vouchers of up to £20 are also welcomed to ensure every child receives a special Christmas present. The appeal is a collaborative effort involving South Lanarkshire Council, social workers, local charities, and other good causes to spread joy and cheer during the holiday season.

As the deadline approaches, there is still time for the community to make a difference by donating to the Hamilton Advertiser toy appeal and bringing smiles to children’s faces this Christmas.
