Man ‘died’ after quintuple heart surgery – and ‘saw the other side’

Simarjot Singh Judge, a 36-year-old man, underwent extremely rare quintuple heart bypass surgery at the age of 34 due to familial hypercholesterolaemia, a genetic disorder causing high cholesterol levels in the blood. The managing partner at Judge Law Solicitors described himself as a “cholesterol-making machine” due to his condition, which went undetected until June 2022 when he was diagnosed after experiencing chest pain. After discovering severe blockages in his arteries, Simarjot needed quintuple heart bypass surgery to save his life, making him the second youngest patient his surgeon had operated on for this procedure.

Despite facing post-surgery complications such as sepsis, which had tragically taken his father’s life previously, Simarjot has shown resilience and strength in his recovery. He emphasised the importance of choosing how one reacts to life’s challenges and shared his journey of rebuilding his life piece by piece. Simarjot also found love with his partner Savita Klear during this challenging period, highlighting the unexpected blessings that can come from adversity.

Simarjot’s health struggles began amidst his father’s battles with heart attacks and strokes, ultimately leading to his passing from sepsis in 2021. Simarjot’s own health issues, including vestibular hypofunction and a prolapsed and slipped disc, were put on hold until his spinal surgery in 2022 revealed his familial hypercholesterolaemia. Despite facing near-death experiences and severe complications post-surgery, Simarjot’s positive outlook and support network of loved ones have been instrumental in his remarkable recovery.

Following his surgeries and recovery journey, Simarjot now emphasises the importance of regular check-ups, staying vigilant for warning signs, and considering private healthcare for those who can afford it.
