Man dies after tree falls on van amid Storm Darragh chaos


A tragic incident occurred during the chaos of Storm Darragh as a man lost his life when a tree fell on his van. The destructive storm brought strong gusts of up to 93mph across parts of the UK, prompting warnings for people to remain indoors, leaving thousands without power and causing cancellations of train services. Lancashire Police launched an investigation after being alerted around 9am on Saturday to the A59 at Longton, near Preston, where the fatal accident took place.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was driving his Citroen van on the dual carriageway when the tree collapsed onto his vehicle. His family has been notified and is receiving support from a specially trained officer. Detective Sgt Matt Davidson of the serious collision investigation unit expressed, “Very sadly, this incident has resulted in the death of a man and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this time.”

The stormy weather conditions have caused havoc, with fallen trees obstructing roads and posing dangers to motorists.
