A man was rushed to the hospital and homes were evacuated following a fire that engulfed a fish and chip shop in a Scottish town. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon on Stewarton Street in Wishaw. Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene around 2.27pm on December 4 after a commercial premises caught fire.
In response to the blaze, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deployed six fire engines with firefighters working diligently to combat the inferno. Police Scotland confirmed that one man was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, and the fire is not being treated as deliberate.
As a safety precaution, residents in the vicinity were evacuated from their homes, and surrounding roads were closed off. Although the road has since reopened to traffic, the footpath outside the building remains closed for pedestrian safety.
Following the incident, a Police Scotland spokesperson stated: “Stewarton Street in Wishaw has reopened to traffic following a building fire yesterday. One man was taken to hospital as a precaution. The fire is not being treated as wilful. The footpath outside the building will remain closed for pedestrian safety.”
