MOVIE REVIEW: We struggle to stay still watching Netflix thriller ‘Don’t Move’

Netflix’s latest thriller ‘Don’t Move’ has viewers on the edge of their seats as they struggle to stay still through the intense storyline. The film follows seasoned killer Richard, played by Finn Wittrock, who injects Iris, portrayed by Kelsey Asbille, with a paralytic agent. Iris must then race against time, running, fighting, and hiding before her body completely succumbs to the paralysis, putting her at Richard’s mercy.
Directors Brian Netto and Adam Schindler successfully stretch the limited plot into a 92-minute feature, with a script by T.J. Cimfel and David White that delves into Iris’s character, depicting her as a troubled woman grappling with grief after a family tragedy. As Iris faces the fight for survival against Richard, portrayed by Wittrock, and his menacing presence, she discovers newfound determination and survival instincts.
As a predominantly two-character film, ‘Don’t Move’ relies heavily on the performances of Asbille and Wittrock, who excel in their roles. Wittrock brings a blend of charm and menace to his character, while Asbille’s portrayal of Iris lying mostly motionless is remarkable, conveying depth and emotion through her eyes.
While the film packs an emotional punch and delivers on its promising premise, some inconsistencies and stretches of credibility are noted, particularly in the effects of the drugs on Iris and the pacing of the storyline. The lack of clarity on Richard’s motivations also leaves a gap in the narrative, though the film overall manages to engage viewers and keep them invested in Iris’s harrowing journey.
Despite its flaws, ‘Don’t Move’ is a gripping thriller that keeps audiences hooked from start to finish. The performances of the lead actors and the tension built throughout the film make it a worthwhile watch for fans of the genre.
