Mum-of-three Discovers Brain Tumour After Collapsing at Train Station

A 71-year-old mother of three, Colette Disley, uncovered a brain tumour following a harrowing experience at a Liverpool train station. Colette, hailing from Melling near Kirkby, had been exhibiting erratic behaviour, including disappearing for days, before suffering a seizure in December 2022 that left her face severely impacted. Despite the ordeal, Colette was determined to push ahead with a planned trip to Australia, leading her to resist seeking medical attention initially.

However, a subsequent collapse in January 2023 prompted her family to intervene and urge Colette to consult a doctor. This decision ultimately led to the discovery of a meningioma brain tumour that had been silently growing for years, significantly influencing her actions and personality. The subsequent operation to remove the tumour resulted in a stroke, leaving Colette battling fatigue and mobility issues.

Reflecting on her journey, Colette expressed her unawareness of the problem she was facing, causing strain within her family. She recounted heartbreaking moments of discord and disconnection with her children, acknowledging the profound impact on her life. Following surgery in May 2023, Colette faced additional challenges, including a brain bleed and paralysis, but she persevered through rehabilitation to return home.

Amidst her recovery, Colette is now advocating for Brain Tumour Research, participating in the charity’s 99 Miles in November challenge to raise awareness and funds for the cause. She highlighted the importance of recognising the broader impact of brain tumours on individuals and their loved ones, emphasizing the need for support and understanding.

With a renewed sense of purpose, Colette has embraced her role in raising awareness about brain tumours, urging others to contribute to the cause and help those affected by the disease. Despite the obstacles she has faced, Colette remains resilient and committed to making a difference in the fight against brain tumours.
