Murrayfield tribute for former Stirling County star raises support for charity fund

At Murrayfield Stadium, rugby fans came together during Scotland’s international match against Australia to support a charity fund in memory of a former Stirling County star. The fundraising event was organised for the Siobhan’s Legacy of Love Fund, created to honour the late Scotland international, Siobhan Cattigan, who tragically passed away at the age of 26 three years ago.
The legacy fund aims to raise funds for young patients at Glasgow Children’s Hospital to receive ‘hippotherapy’, a form of treatment that utilises horse-riding for sensory and motor stimulation, reflecting Siobhan’s passion for animals. Approximately 20 collectors were stationed around the stadium, urging supporters to contribute to the fund, with Scotland scrum-halves George Horne and Jamie Dobie showing their backing before the match.
George Horne expressed his gratitude, stating, “The memorial fund raises money for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. We really appreciate anything you can spare to honour Siobhan’s legacy.” Siobhan had been a dedicated supporter of the charity for over a decade before her untimely death in November 2021.
Following her passing, Siobhan’s family has continued to uphold her fundraising legacy through various events. At Murrayfield, volunteers and supporters were commended on social media by Siobhan’s family post-match, expressing heartfelt appreciation for their efforts. Kirsten Watson, CEO of Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, praised Siobhan’s longstanding commitment to fundraising and highlighted the importance of continuing her legacy.
In summary, the Murrayfield tribute for the former Stirling County star not only raised vital funds for a charitable cause but also showcased the power of community and remembrance within the world of rugby. The event served as a touching tribute to Siobhan’s memory, demonstrating the lasting impact she had on both her sport and her community.
