Newmains locals turn out for switching on of village’s new Christmas lights

Locals in Newmains gathered together to witness the switching on of the village’s brand new Christmas lights. The event, which followed a successful fundraising campaign, saw the official unveiling of the new living tree and festive lights. Despite the rainy weather, a large crowd turned up to mark the beginning of the holiday season in a grand fashion.

Taking to social media, the staff at Newmains Community and Conference Centre expressed their delight at the turnout, stating, “We think it’s fair to say that the first Christmas light switch-on with our community-owned living tree was a huge success, aside from a bit of a downpour, but at least the rain stayed off for the switch-on!”

Acknowledgments were given to Jordan Electrics for installing the power supply, Bellway Homes for groundwork support, and Field & Lawn for providing and setting up the beautiful lights. Councillor Robert McKendrick was also praised for his assistance in coordinating the help. The volunteers, staff at the NCT Centre, Newmains Primary School children’s choir, and Newmains Brass Band were all commended for their contributions to the event.

The organisers expressed gratitude towards the community members and local businesses who generously donated money and gifts to make the event a success. Looking ahead, they teased that next year’s festivities will be even bigger and better, urging everyone to stay tuned for more updates.

As the festive spirit fills Newmains, the community’s unity and support shone brightly during the Christmas lights switch-on event. Despite the weather challenges, the sense of togetherness and holiday cheer prevailed, bringing joy to all who attended. It’s heartwarming to see the community come together to create magical moments and spread the joy of the season. The efforts of the organisers, volunteers, local businesses, and supporters truly showcase the spirit of Christmas in Newmains.
