NHS Musculoskeletal Physio Team Hosts Appointment Days at Wishaw Sports Centre

The NHS Lanarkshire’s Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy Team recently organised two Community Appointment Days (CADs) at the Wishaw Sports Centre. The aim of these events was to provide support to patients on the MSK Physiotherapy waiting list, empowering them to manage their own conditions. A total of 460 people attended across both days, engaging with staff to discuss their conditions and priorities, receive assessments, diagnoses, and rehabilitation or advice.

During the CADs, attendees had the opportunity to engage in ‘What Matters Most to You’ conversations, followed by appropriate assessments, rehab, or advice sessions. Information stalls from 14 partner organisations, including leisure, pharmacy, podiatry, and Community Link Workers, were also available for additional support and guidance. Brian Slattery, Acting Physiotherapy Musculoskeletal Strategy Lead at NHS Lanarkshire, expressed gratitude towards the staff and partners for the success of the events and thanked the participants.

One service user, Susan Sutherland, shared her positive experience, stating that she was able to receive an assessment and an exercise plan for her sore foot within 40 minutes. The feedback received from these events will inform the planning of future physiotherapy CADs, which are scheduled to take place in other areas of Lanarkshire in the coming months.

The innovative approach of the NHS Musculoskeletal Physio Team in organising Community Appointment Days reflects a commitment to patient-centred care and empowering individuals to take charge of their health. By providing a platform for open conversations, assessments, and tailored support, these events not only benefit the attendees but also contribute to enhancing the overall patient experience within the healthcare system. Such initiatives pave the way for more collaborative and effective healthcare delivery, ultimately leading to improved outcomes for patients with musculoskeletal conditions.
