Outlander star Sam Heughan donates thousands to Scots Hollywood stuntman after freak accident

Outlander Star Sam Heughan Supports Scots Hollywood Stuntman After Freak Accident
Scottish actor Sam Heughan, known for his role as Jamie Fraser in Outlander, has made a generous donation of £2,000 to help a Scots Hollywood stuntman, Charlie Allan, cover the costs of surgery following a tragic leg injury. Charlie Allan, 61, who has been involved in battle scenes in major Hollywood productions, suffered a 15ft fall while constructing a home gym in Dumfries. This accident left him unable to walk more than a few feet or perform everyday tasks due to the formation of two blood clots behind his left knee.
A crowdfunding campaign was initiated to raise £25,000 for the necessary life-changing surgery, which captured the attention of Sam Heughan. The Outlander star decided to contribute £2,000 to the fundraising efforts. Charlie Allan, who is the chief executive of the Clanranald Trust, a charity focusing on Scotland’s culture and history through battle re-enactments, expressed his gratitude towards Sam Heughan, calling him “What a guy!” He recounted the moment of the horrific injury, describing the excruciating noise accompanying the accident.
After tearing ligaments in his knee, Charlie experienced significant swelling and took anti-inflammatory painkillers to manage the pain. Unfortunately, the medication, combined with the injury, led to the formation of a blood clot that worsened his condition. Despite initially improving, Charlie’s leg seized up at a country fair, prompting him to seek medical help. Following a series of events, including unsuccessful treatment attempts due to past medical history, Charlie and his wife discovered a potential solution abroad – an Endovascular Thrombectomy procedure costing £25,000.
Charlie Allan’s aim is to undergo this vital surgery in Hungary or Germany upon reaching the fundraising target. Notably, the Clanranald Trust, where Charlie works, has been involved in various blockbuster film and TV productions, providing expertise on period dress, armour, weaponry, and battle scenes. The trust members, including Charlie, have participated in renowned productions like Outlander, Gladiator, King Arthur, and more.
Additionally, Charlie’s encounter with actor Russell Crowe during the filming of Gladiator led to a friendship and a significant donation of a prop for the Trust. The fundraiser for Charlie’s treatment has been established with the support of his long-time friend Randy Dedrickson from the Trust’s US operations. With the community rallying behind Charlie, he remains hopeful of recovering from his injuries and returning to his passion for Hollywood productions.
