Pensioner left ‘partially blind’ after horror fall on ‘cracked’ Glasgow road

An elderly woman has been left “partially blind” after a terrifying fall on a damaged road in Glasgow. Catriona Graham, 71, suffered severe injuries when she tripped on a crack on Crow Road in the Broomhill area on a Friday evening in November. Passersby came to her rescue and she was quickly taken to the hospital, where she received stitches for head injuries. Due to the fall, Catriona is now unable to see out of her left eye and may require eye surgery in the future.
Reflecting on the traumatic experience, Catriona described the pain and fear she felt during the fall, emphasizing how fortunate she was that the outcome wasn’t worse. She expressed frustration with Glasgow City Council for the poor condition of Crow Road, highlighting numerous cracks and potholes that pose risks to pedestrians and drivers alike. Catriona has called on the council to address the road’s hazards and compensate her for the harm she has suffered.
In response, Glasgow City Council expressed their concern for Catriona’s well-being and assured that the area of Crow Road where the incident occurred is regularly inspected and maintained according to their repair policy. They stated that any claim made by Catriona would be duly considered and addressed within the guidelines of their policy. Meanwhile, Catriona continues to await further medical evaluation to determine the extent of her injuries and any necessary treatments.
This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining safe infrastructure for the community. As Catriona navigates her recovery and seeks justice for her ordeal, it highlights the need for proactive measures to prevent similar accidents in the future. Hopefully, her story will prompt authorities to take swift action in ensuring the safety of all road users in the city.
