Play park inspired by Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff is coming to Ayrshire school

A new play park, inspired by the Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff, is set to be built at Heathfield Primary School in Ayrshire. The planning application for the ‘Cruyff Court’ has been unanimously approved by South Ayrshire Council’s Regulatory Panel. The court will feature an all-weather five-a-side pitch, climbing wall, and sunken trampolines, providing a space for children to play and be active.

The agent, Bill Gillespie of Professional Sportsturf Design Limited, highlighted that the Cruyff Court will be utilized by the pupils at Heathfield Primary School during regular school hours, including children from the Extended Learning Unit. The floodlights will be solar-operated and programmed to turn off at 9.30pm, ensuring the pitch is not used beyond that time. This facility aims to benefit children, especially those with additional support needs, who did not have access to such amenities previously.

The Cruyff Foundation emphasizes the importance of outdoor play and togetherness that will be fostered by the court. South Ayrshire Councillors have expressed their support for the project, citing the positive impact it will have on the school children and the community by providing a safe and engaging environment. The court will also be open to the public during evenings, holidays, and weekends, promoting outdoor activity and community engagement.

The introduction of the Cruyff Court at Heathfield Primary School signifies a meaningful investment in providing recreational facilities for children and fostering community spirit. It underscores the importance of outdoor play and physical activity for children’s development and well-being.
