Police found drugs worth £30,000 when they stopped pick-up truck in Hamilton

Police in Hamilton discovered drugs worth £30,000 during a routine stop of a pick-up truck. The incident led to the arrest of Samuel O’Neill, 31, who was found in possession of bags containing cannabis resin and amphetamine. O’Neill, hailing from Partington, Greater Manchester, appeared before Hamilton Sheriff Court following the apprehension.

Neil Thomson, the prosecutor in the case, informed the court that the police received information prompting them to be on the lookout for a Ford Ranger vehicle. Their vigilance paid off as they spotted the vehicle exiting the M74 and tracked it to Low Waters Road, where they conducted a stop. O’Neill was alone in the vehicle and subsequent searches uncovered 1.8kg of amphetamine with an estimated value of £25,000, as well as 2.5kg of cannabis resin valued at up to £5,000.

Sheriff Louise Gallacher decided to defer O’Neill’s sentencing until the next month in order to obtain background reports, and allowed him to remain on bail in the meantime.
