Public consultation launched over Carron Valley windfarm plans

Public Consultation Begins for Proposed Carron Valley Wind Farm
A public consultation has been initiated for the development of a new four-turbine wind farm in Carron Valley. The European renewable energy developer, Eurowind Energy Ltd (EWE), has identified land at Cairnoch Hill, located north of Carron Valley reservoir, as the site for the Carron Valley Wind Farm project.
The proposed wind farm is set to encompass four wind turbines, reaching up to a tip height of 200m, with a maximum generation capacity of up to 30 Megawatts (MW). This capacity is projected to cater to the energy needs of approximately 28,000 households in the UK while preventing an estimated 38,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. Furthermore, a Community Benefit Fund of £5,000 per installed MW per year will be established to support local projects and initiatives.
To engage with local communities early on, EWE is encouraging residents to participate in discussions regarding the project. Two drop-in public exhibition events have been scheduled as part of the initial consultation phase. The first event will be held at Fintry Sports Club on Tuesday, November 26, from 3pm to 7pm. The second event will take place at the Milton Suite, King Robert Hotel in Stirling, on Wednesday, November 27, also from 3pm to 7pm.
Dr David McCaughie, Development Manager (UK) at Eurowind Energy Ltd, expressed the company’s commitment to dialogue with local residents to address concerns and maximize the benefits of the investment. He highlighted the significant environmental impact the proposed wind farm could have, contributing towards Scotland’s transition to sustainable, carbon-free energy sources.
Additionally, the company has submitted a scoping request to Stirling Council planners, outlining the Environmental Impact Assessment requirements as part of the pre-planning phase. The council notes the unique landscape characteristics surrounding the proposed development site and emphasises the importance of assessing visual and cumulative impacts on the environment.
Interested parties can access further details about the project on the dedicated website, www.carronvalleywindfarm.com. The initial phase of the public consultation will remain open until Friday, December 6.
