Queen of the South hold minute’s silence in honour of Dalbeattie’s Keith Thom

Queen of the South Football Club paid tribute to Keith Thom, their disability access officer and supporter’s liaison officer, with a minute’s silence before their match against Montrose at Palmerston. Keith Thom, who hailed from Dalbeattie, passed away last month. The club honoured his memory by holding a solemn moment of reflection before the game.

Keith Thom, who dedicated himself to promoting wheelchair tennis and other adaptive sports, will be laid to rest at Dalbeattie Parish Church today at noon. The funeral service is open to all who wish to pay their respects. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dan Maskell Tennis Trust through www.justgiving.com/page/keith-thom. Keith was a passionate advocate for the charity, having embraced wheelchair tennis after losing a leg to bone cancer.

In addition to his work with wheelchair tennis, Keith was actively involved with Dalbeattie Tennis Club and excelled in wheelchair curling and pickleball. He was recognised as the Stewartry Sports Personality of the Year in 2009 and had served as the chairman of Stewartry Sports Council. Keith Thom’s contributions to the sporting community in the region were significant and enduring.

The Queen of the South’s gesture of observing a minute’s silence in memory of Keith Thom underscores the impact he had on the club and the broader sports community. Keith’s legacy will continue to inspire and motivate individuals to overcome barriers and excel in sports, regardless of physical challenges they may face.
