Retired policeman to cycle from Stirling to Morocco to raise cash for respite home for sick kids

A retired policeman is embarking on a challenging solo cycling journey from Stirling Castle in Scotland all the way to Marrakesh, Morocco, to fundraise for a respite home for children with life-limiting illnesses. Johnny Dreczkowski, a former Detective Inspector with over 30 years of police service, has taken on this ambitious 2,500-mile route through seven countries to support the Eilidh Brown Respite Home. The home, named after a local girl who passed away from cancer, provides a sanctuary for children facing serious illnesses and their families.
Starting in May next year, Johnny will pedal through Scotland, England, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, and finally Morocco. He will be self-sufficient throughout the six-week journey, carrying only essential gear and his unwavering determination to reach Marrakesh. The Eilidh Brown Respite Home, inspired by the vision of the late Eilidh Brown, requires £50,000 annually to continue operating and supporting families during challenging times.
Johnny’s wife, Ally Croll, who designed the respite home, has been his partner in various fundraising missions over the years. Johnny’s previous charity endeavours include cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats, completing the West Highland Way, and cycling from Stirling Castle to Rome. His dedication to supporting charitable causes has raised over £100,000 with the help of his community and loved ones.
The Eilidh Brown Respite Home stands as a testament to the community’s generosity and Eilidh’s legacy, providing a place of respite and care for families facing the hardships of childhood illnesses. Johnny’s upcoming cycling challenge serves as a beacon of hope and fundraising for this vital institution. With his rigorous training regimen and commitment to the cause, Johnny aims to raise awareness and essential funds to ensure the home’s sustained operation.
To support Johnny in his fundraising efforts, an online donation page has been set up to gather contributions for his monumental cycling journey. By taking on this extraordinary challenge, Johnny exemplifies the spirit of community support and solidarity towards those in need, embodying the resilience and compassion that define the human spirit in times of adversity.
