Rutherglen Rotarians Provide Winter Warmers as Appeal Collects Hundreds of Coats
Rutherglen Rotarians have once again shown their community spirit by spearheading an initiative to collect winter coats for those in need. The annual Wrap Up Lanarkshire appeal, organized by the Rotary Club of Rutherglen, received an overwhelming response with hundreds of warm coats and heavy jackets donated to help people stay warm during the winter months.
The initiative aims to support individuals who may not have access to or be able to afford appropriate winter clothing, especially those experiencing homelessness. Over 400 coats and jackets were generously donated at four drop-off points across the area, including Burnside Church, Croftfoot Church, St Bride’s Church, and Rutherglen United Reformed Church.
Volunteers worked diligently to collect and inspect each garment to ensure they were clean and in good condition before distributing them to those in need. The donated winter clothing has been delivered to the Kindness, Homeless Street Team charity in Glasgow’s east end just in time as temperatures plummet.
The Rotary Club of Rutherglen upholds their motto of providing only high-quality coats by asking themselves, “Is this coat good enough for you to wear?” This ensures that charitable organizations receive items that will truly make a difference in the lives of those they support.
Andy Cattanach, Past President of the Rotary Club of Rutherglen, expressed gratitude to all donors and volunteers involved in the initiative. He extended special thanks to Bill Mcintosh and the National Sign Company for their support in organizing and delivering the coats.
The community’s response to the Wrap Up Lanarkshire appeal reflects the generosity and kindness present in Rutherglen. Such initiatives not only provide essential items to those in need but also foster a sense of unity and compassion within the community.
In summary, the Rotary Club of Rutherglen’s winter coat appeal has successfully collected and distributed hundreds of warm coats to those in need, demonstrating the power of community support and generosity during the colder months. The initiative serves as a reminder of the positive impact individuals can make when they come together to support those less fortunate.
