Schoolgirl, 8, dies after trying to protect mum from knife attack

An 8-year-old schoolgirl tragically passed away while trying to protect her mother from a knife attack, according to reports. Malikika Al Katib was allegedly stabbed multiple times when she attempted to assist her mother, who was being assaulted with a knife late on Sunday night. The incident took place in their home on William Street in New Ross, Wexford, Ireland when the attacker turned the weapon on the young girl. Malikika’s mother, Alisha, 31, also sustained stab wounds during the attack and was receiving treatment at the same hospital. Fortunately, sources indicated that she was expected to recover fully. Moreover, a man in his 30s was found with minor knife injuries and was also under treatment at University Hospital Waterford.
