Schools closed across Scotland as snow hit and temperatures plummet

Schools across Scotland have been forced to close as snowfall and plummeting temperatures grip the country. The winter blast has brought the first snow of the season, particularly impacting areas in the Highlands, Western Isles, Aberdeenshire, and Northern Isles. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning until 10 am on November 20, cautioning about challenging conditions expected to persist until Wednesday morning.
Forecasters predict heavy wintry showers on Tuesday, with snowfall of 2-5cm anticipated widely, extending even to lower elevations. Higher areas above 300m could see up to 20cm of snow. Concerns about icy conditions have also risen, with sleet expected along coastal regions. Lerwick in Shetland already recorded 2cm of snow, with more expected to lower levels throughout Tuesday. The yellow warning covers several regions, including Shetland, Orkney, the Highlands, Western Isles, Moray, Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen, Angus, and Perth and Kinross.
Officials have warned of potential disruptions like hazardous travel conditions, rural communities being cut off, power outages, slips on icy surfaces, and travel delays. Despite the challenges, the cold snap might bring some Scottish school pupils the joy of a snow day. Several schools have either closed or delayed opening due to the wintry weather, including a list of schools in different regions such as Aberdeenshire, Highland, and Shetland.
Parents in other regions like Angus, Perth and Kinross, Orkney, the Western Isles, Moray, and Aberdeen are advised to stay updated through social media and council websites for any school closure information amid the wintry conditions.
