Scots Hollywood stuntman faces amputation after home accident

A Scottish Hollywood stuntman, Charlie Allan, is in danger of losing his leg after a freak accident at home. Allan, known for his work in Gladiator, fell into a 15-foot ditch while working on his home gym, leading to two blood clots behind his left knee. As his condition worsened, the NHS surgeons were unable to help, leaving Allan with a race against time to raise £25,000 for a crucial procedure to save his leg and potentially his life.

The incident occurred on August 8, causing complete arterial thrombosis in his left knee. Despite efforts to manage the injury, blood clots developed, threatening circulation to his lower leg. NHS surgeons concluded that they could not perform a vein bypass due to complications from a previous injury. With no other options available locally, Allan’s wife, Chara, discovered surgeons in the US and Germany who could perform the necessary procedure, offering a 90% chance of success. However, the procedure comes with a hefty price tag of £25,000.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to fund the surgery, with the initial donations reaching almost £8,000. Allan, humbled by the support, emphasised the urgency of the situation, highlighting the potential fatal consequences if left untreated. Despite his connections in the film industry, including support from Russell Crowe, Allan hesitated to ask for financial assistance. His injury has forced him to halt work in the film industry and withdraw from upcoming projects.

Allan, also the founder of the Clanranald Trust for Scotland, remains focused on his recovery, aiming to return to his passion for stunt work and family life. With a young son, Bran, Allan is determined to recover fully to engage in activities with him. To support Allan’s journey to save his leg, donations can be made through his GoFundMe page.
