Scots mum’s Craig Tara holiday hell as water pours from ceiling lights and apartment flooded

A mother and her son were left traumatised during their stay at Craig Tara Holiday Park in Ayr when water poured from the ceiling lights, flooding their apartment. Lisa Johnson, along with her 10-year-old son, Harrison, and his friend, were enjoying a break at the holiday park when the incident occurred. Four days into their stay, Lisa heard water pouring onto the apartment floor and discovered water gushing from the light fittings, resembling a fountain, and flooding the kitchen and living room where the children were present. Despite banging on the door of the apartment above and receiving no response, Lisa had to run to reception with the kids for help.
A plumber found a burst water pipe, while an electrician removed the light fittings and advised them to wait for the water to dry. Lisa, feeling abandoned and in tears, had to continuously fetch dry towels to clean up the mess over almost four hours. She also noted water damage in her damp-smelling apartment’s boiler cupboard. Lisa shared footage of the incident on Facebook, expressing her dismay over the dangerous situation and the lack of support from the management team at the holiday park. Haven Holidays refunded their £200 stay and apologised for the maintenance issues.
Lisa described the distressing experience, highlighting the lack of assistance and the decrepit state of the apartment even before the flooding occurred. Despite considering leaving early, Lisa decided to stay for the kids’ sake to attend a Halloween-themed disco on their final night. She expressed disappointment over the holiday experience and the lack of compensation for the trauma endured.
In response, a Haven Holidays spokesperson acknowledged the maintenance issues and inconvenience caused, mentioning that alternative accommodation was provided, a full refund was issued, and necessary repairs were made promptly. The incident sheds light on the importance of proper maintenance and guest support in holiday accommodations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors.
