Scots Show Strong Support for Key SNP Government Policies, Poll Indicates
A recent poll suggests that Scots overwhelmingly endorse key policies implemented by the SNP Government. According to a survey conducted by Survation, people in Scotland are in favour of several initiatives such as free prescriptions, free university tuition, the Scottish Child Payment, and the nationalisation of ScotRail.
The findings, commissioned by the think tank Progress Scotland, also reveal support for other measures including the free bus pass for over 60s, childcare entitlement, small business rates discount, and the focus on generating renewable energy. Progress Scotland’s managing director, SNP Culture Secretary Angus Robertson, highlighted the positive reception of these policies among the Scottish population.
SNP MSP Jackie Dunbar commented on the impact of SNP policies since coming into government in 2007. She emphasised the tangible benefits brought to Scotland, such as free prescriptions, tuition fees, childcare provisions, and support for small businesses. Dunbar also underscored the SNP Government’s efforts to shield Scots from detrimental Westminster policies.
The poll results indicated significant backing for key policies. 82% of respondents support free prescriptions, while 65% endorse the Scottish Child Payment. Additionally, 63% view the decision to nationalise ScotRail positively, and 73% believe in the importance of free university tuition. There is also overwhelming support for free bus travel for over 60s and disabled individuals (88%), as well as the entitlement to 1,140 hours of free early learning and childcare (71%).
Moreover, the survey revealed that 68% back business rates discounts for small businesses and 71% approve of the focus on renewable energy to meet electricity demand. Conducted from November 1-15, the poll involved 3,016 adults in online interviews.
In summary, the poll results underscore the widespread backing for SNP Government policies in Scotland, highlighting the positive impact of these initiatives on the lives of the Scottish populace. The survey reflects a strong endorsement of measures aimed at improving access to essential services, supporting businesses, and advancing environmental sustainability.
