Scots student who woke up with lump on neck diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

A young Scottish student, Dylan Stewart, had his world turned upside down when he woke up one day with a large lump on his neck, leading to a shock diagnosis of Stage 2 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in October. The 21-year-old apprentice plumber from Barrhead shared his unexpected cancer journey, revealing that despite no other symptoms, the discovery of the 5cm x 7cm lump prompted him to seek medical attention immediately.

After undergoing a biopsy and ultrasound at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, Dylan received the devastating news of his cancer diagnosis on October 3. Despite the emotional turmoil that followed, Dylan expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of his family and friends. Determined to fight the disease, he embarked on chemotherapy treatment on November 5, currently undergoing his second cycle with four months of treatment planned ahead.

Navigating through the challenges of his treatment, Dylan has been unable to continue working as an apprentice plumber due to his weakened immune system. Nevertheless, he remains focused on helping others facing similar battles with cancer. By raising nearly £2,895 for charities such as Teenage Cancer Trust, Beatson Cancer Charity, and Lymphoma Action, Dylan aims to give back and support fellow young people undergoing cancer treatment.

The significant role played by cancer charities in providing resources and support to young patients like Dylan is underscored by his fundraising efforts. Notably, Teenage Cancer Trust and Beatson Cancer Charity have been instrumental in enhancing the quality of care and treatment for Dylan and his peers. In a heartwarming display of solidarity, seven of Dylan’s friends shaved their heads in a show of support as he courageously battles cancer.

Dylan’s resilience and determination to make a positive impact amidst his own health challenges serve as an inspiration to many. Through his charitable initiatives and commitment to raising awareness about cancer, he embodies strength, compassion, and the power of community support in facing adversity. Dylan’s story stands as a testament to the transformative power of hope, love, and solidarity in the face of life’s toughest trials.
