Scots teen helped snare one of world’s most prolific online sex offenders

A Scottish teenager played a crucial role in catching one of the world’s most prolific online sex offenders, as reported by the Daily Record. Alexander McCartney, a 26-year-old from Northern Ireland, confessed to 185 charges, including child sex offences and manslaughter. The offender targeted victims online, posing as a teenager between 2013 and 2019. He coerced victims into sending images which he then threatened to share.

The perpetrator was finally apprehended when a 13-year-old girl contacted the police after being targeted online. Subsequently, 64 devices were seized from McCartney’s residence. Tragically, one of his victims, Cimarron Thomas, took her own life after an online interaction with McCartney in 2018. Her father, Benjamin, also tragically took his own life 18 months later.
