“Significant weaknesses” identified at care at home service in Ayr

Care at home service in Ayr found to have “significant weaknesses”
A care at home service in Ayr, Inspired Independent Living Support Service, has been identified as having “significant weaknesses.” The service, located in Racecourse View, was rated as ‘weak’ across four quality indicators by the Care Inspectorate during a recent inspection. The inspection revealed that while staff were described as “kind and compassionate,” there were areas in need of improvement.
According to the Care Inspectorate, policies and procedures for managing people’s money were identified as needing improvement. Quality assurance processes, self-evaluation, and improvement plans were also highlighted as areas requiring enhancements. Staff training was deemed as inadequate and in need of improvement, even though each person supported had their own dedicated staff team.
The report highlighted that personal plans for service users needed to be more person-centered, with input from the individuals supported and their relatives. While some individuals were able to participate in activities and maintain positive relationships within their local community, others were socially isolated at home, which could impact their wellbeing in the long term.
Inspired Independent Living Support Service aims to help individuals secure and maintain their own tenancy to become valued members of their community. At the time of the inspection, three individuals were receiving support from the service. The Care Inspectorate noted strengths in areas such as medication administration but emphasized the need for improvements in various aspects related to supporting people’s wellbeing, leadership, staff team, and planned care and support.
The Care Inspectorate has set deadlines for the service to fulfil areas for improvement by January and March to enhance service delivery and address the identified weaknesses. This news serves as a reminder of the importance of consistently monitoring and enhancing the quality of care provided to vulnerable individuals in the community.
