Son of ‘hero’ NHS doctor who died from cancer raises vital funds in dad’s memory to help patients

Louie Beausang, the son of the ‘hero’ NHS doctor, Pat Beausang, who tragically passed away from cancer, is on a mission to raise crucial funds in his father’s memory to aid patients battling the illness. Pat, a revered consultant with NHS Forth Valley, lost his fight with leukaemia at the age of 43 in August 2009, leaving behind his wife Cat and children Orla and Louie. Remembered for his dedication as a geriatric medicine consultant at Stirling Royal Infirmary, a lecture in his honour is held annually at Forth Valley Royal Hospital.
In May of this year, Louie, along with friends and Dr Lynsey Fielden, Dr Beausang’s former registrar, participated in the Edinburgh Half Marathon to support Blood Cancer UK. Inspired by the success of this fundraising event, Louie is now planning ‘The Pat Beausang Legacy Ball’ scheduled for February 22 at the Stirling Court Hotel. His goal is to surpass the previous fundraising total and ensure his father’s legacy lives on.
Reflecting on his father’s impact, Louie shared, “Even though I only had seven short years of life with my dad, he is forever my hero and the person I look up to most.” He described his father as a man devoted to his family, work, and running, and emphasized the profound respect and love others had for him. Louie’s dedication to fundraising stems from the support his family received from Blood Cancer UK during his father’s illness, motivating him to provide resources and aid to other families facing similar challenges.
Louie highlighted his father’s passion for running and how he was deprived of fulfilling his dream of competing in a half marathon due to his untimely passing. Through supporting Blood Cancer UK, Louie aims to make a positive impact, honour his father’s memory, and improve the care available to cancer patients and their families. His upcoming charity ball is set to be a night of celebration, memories, and new beginnings, all in honour of his father’s legacy.
