South Lanarkshire Council approve 25-house development in Lesmahagow


South Lanarkshire Council has given the green light to a proposed 25-house development in Lesmahagow, marking a significant step towards the project’s realization. The ambitious plans presented by Alan Wilson of Modern Housing Limited were approved by the South Lanarkshire Council Planning committee. Situated on land 85 metres south of Brocketsbrae Road, the development aims to offer residents a high-quality living experience while prioritizing energy efficiency and sustainability.

The proposed houses are designed with large windows in every room to maximise natural light, reducing the need for artificial lighting and cutting down on electricity usage. Additionally, all homes will be equipped with air source heat pumps boasting an energy efficiency rating of around 400 per cent. This technology is expected to significantly lower energy consumption for heating purposes and water heating within the houses. Moreover, each house will be fitted with solar panels to allow residents to reduce their reliance on the national grid, alongside electric car charging points to promote sustainable transportation options.

Furthermore, the development will feature a two-metre wide footpath on Eastwood Road, providing easy access to Lesmahagow with its local schools and shops within a 15-minute walk. The proximity of bus stops in Priory Road, reachable within 15-20 minutes, is set to enhance the convenience and connectivity for future residents. Despite discussions around noise impact from the adjacent motorway and other related concerns, the planning officials concluded that the proposal aligns with existing policies and presents no significant barriers to approval.

Councillor Ross Lambie highlighted the history of the site’s planning journey, emphasising the need for continuous improvement and adaptation to meet evolving requirements. While acknowledging the importance of addressing noise-related issues, a planning official assured the committee that appropriate conditions would be enforced to enhance the residents’ living conditions. The development’s approval comes with certain conditions to ensure compliance and enhance the overall amenity for future occupants.
