Stewartry to commemorate fallen soldiers on Remembrance Sunday

The Stewartry district is gearing up to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers this upcoming Remembrance Sunday. Several services and parades are scheduled across the district to honour the occasion.

Representatives from Legion Scotland in Dalbeattie will begin the day at Haugh of Urr at 9.45am, followed by a service at Dalbeattie Parish Church at 10.45am, with the poignant playing of the Last Post at 11am. The focus will then shift to the war memorial in Colliston Park for a wreath-laying ceremony at 12 noon. Attendees will then head to Kirkgunzeon at 2pm before returning to Haugh of Urr for another wreath-laying at 3.15pm. A similar ceremony will also take place at Buittle at 4pm.

In Kirkcudbright, the remembrance service is set to take place at the war memorial at 10.45am, followed by a procession to Kirkcudbright Parish Church for a service. Over in Castle Douglas, the parade will assemble at the British Legion at Market Hill for 10.30am before moving to the war memorial for the service. Following this, there will be a church service, and attendees are invited to the British Legion for soup and refreshments.

Twynholm Parish Church will host a service at 11.30am, concluding with a service of remembrance at the war memorial at 12.30pm. Additionally, services will be held at Borgue war memorial at 11am, Ringford war memorial at 1pm, and Balmaghie Kirk at Glenlochar for an act of remembrance and wreath-laying at 3pm.
