Stirling foodbank hopes festive appeal can help those in need in winter snap

Start Up Stirling, a foodbank charity in Stirling, has launched a festive appeal to bring some cheer to those in need this Christmas. The charity estimates it will need £420,000 to fund its services in 2025 and is urging people to consider making a financial donation. By eligible for Gift Aid, the government can contribute an additional 25 per cent at no extra cost. Aside from monetary gifts, the charity offers various ways to support their winter food programme, such as the Reverse Advent Calendar, where essential food items can be donated for Crisis Food Support parcels.
Donations of tinned pasta, coffee, cereal bars, tinned meat, and soup are welcomed at their supermarket donation stations. Businesses and organisations can also host a Start Up Donation Station. Additionally, a Big 2024 Christmas Draw is happening with various prizes to be won. Gift vouchers and cash donations can be made online. Giving Trees in Stirling’s Thistles shopping centre provide an opportunity for shoppers to purchase essential home items for those in need.
Upcoming events include a Food Drive at Tesco Superstore, a Christmas Coffee, Lunch, and Crafts Event by Rotary in Callander, and a Scottish Folk Music Night at Bridge of Allan Bowling Club. Start Up Stirling encourages support through donations, and further information can be obtained by contacting their office or visiting their website.
My insights: Start Up Stirling’s festive appeal is a heartwarming initiative to support those facing hardships during the holiday season. The variety of ways to contribute, from donating essential items to participating in fundraising events, offers the community a chance to come together and make a positive impact. It’s inspiring to see the charity’s dedication to helping those in need and spreading joy during a challenging time of year.
