Superb snaps on show at latest Motherwell Photo Society meeting
The latest meeting of the Motherwell Photographic Society showcased some exceptional photography by its members. The judge for the competition was Campbell Skinner from Greenock Camera Club, who provided valuable advice on printing, mounting photographs, and choosing the right photo paper to enhance the images. Campbell critiqued aspects like composition, lighting, sharpness, and background distractions in the photos, offering insights on how they could be improved.
The judging of the second print competition of the season took place at the meeting, with Campbell awarding a score out of 20 for each print. Linda Greenhill’s “Trio” claimed the first place in the landscape and general section, closely followed by Rodger Shearer’s “The Leap” in second place. Third place in this category was shared by “Stormy Waters” by Rodger Shearer, “Do I Look Like I’m Having Fun?” by Douglas McEwen, and “Great Spotted Woodpecker” by Linda Greenhill. In the portrait section, “The Chesterfield” clinched the top spot, with “Officer Rob” in second place, and “Land Girl” in third. Linda Greenhill’s prints were notable for scoring highest in the portrait section.
Club Vice President Rodger Shearer expressed gratitude to Campbell for his time and efforts in judging the prints and providing constructive feedback. The upcoming club meeting on December 12 is set to be the annual members’ night, where members will have the chance to share images that are not typically seen by others. Motherwell Photographic Society welcomes photography enthusiasts of all levels to its Thursday evening meetings at 7.30pm in Holytown Community Centre.
