Team work at centre of Dumfries and Galloway’s safety campaign

Teamwork is at the heart of Dumfries and Galloway’s latest safety campaign, as various organisations come together to ensure the well-being of residents and visitors. Inspector Amy Ritchie from Police Scotland led the launch of the campaign in Dumfries town centre, joined by partners such as the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Street Pastors, Ambulance Service, Trading Standards, and Dumfries and Galloway Council. Their goal is to raise awareness of simple safety measures that people can take during the festive season, a time when communities are bustling with activity.
Inspector Ritchie highlighted the unique roles each partner plays in maintaining safety and lawfulness in the region, especially as shoppers, visitors, and party-goers prepare for the holiday season. The collaborative effort extends beyond Dumfries town centre, reaching other towns in the region and major shopping areas like Caledonia Park in Gretna for Christmas and Hogmanay. The partnership aims to ensure a safe and enjoyable festive period for all, with tailored action plans in place for different areas.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to take personal responsibility for their safety by following a few key tips. Planning nights out, travelling with friends, securing homes, avoiding social media posts about being away, and staying vigilant in public spaces are among the recommended safety measures. Inspector Ritchie emphasised the importance of reporting any suspicious activity to the police and reminded everyone of the shared responsibility in keeping communities safe all year round.
As the festive season approaches, the focus on collaboration and proactive safety measures is crucial to creating a positive and secure environment for all in Dumfries and Galloway. By working together and staying vigilant, everyone can contribute to a safe and enjoyable experience during this busy time of the year.
