Theatre perv filmed woman and children when they were naked in costume changes

A disturbing case involving a theatre performer, Thomas Jason Connell, has come to light after revelations emerged that he filmed women and children in various states of undress during costume changes. Connell, 27, placed a hidden camera in backstage changing rooms while performing in theatre shows in Edinburgh, capturing footage of the victims without their knowledge. Additionally, he recorded children at a swimming pool and was found with seedy videos of upskirting women and horrifying images of child abuse on his mobile phone.
Connell admitted to eight counts of voyeurism and possessing indecent images of children during a court appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court. The prosecution revealed that Connell had been previously placed on the sex offenders register after being found with child abuse images in the past. Connell’s actions have caused distress and shock among the victims, who were unaware of being recorded and described the footage as violating their trust.
The court was informed that Connell’s devices contained video clips of him setting up cameras in bathrooms of homes, capturing women showering naked. Furthermore, footage showed male and female children in swimwear at a swimming pool and children getting undressed backstage in theatres. Connell’s face and voice were identifiable in the recordings, showcasing the extent of his disturbing actions.
In light of these egregious offences, Connell has been remanded in custody and placed on the sex offenders register. Sentencing has been deferred for the preparation of social work reports and a risk assessment. Despite his public image as an entertainer and singer, Connell’s predatory behaviour has appalled the community and raised concerns about safeguarding measures in performance spaces.
It is essential for authorities to address such despicable acts to ensure the protection and safety of individuals, especially vulnerable women and children. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and accountability in preventing and addressing instances of voyeurism and child exploitation within society.
