Two East Kilbride organisations awarded total of £4.5k from Co-op’s Local Community Fund

Two organisations in East Kilbride have been awarded a total of £4.5k from the Co-op’s Local Community Fund, bringing joy and financial boost to the 6th East Kilbride Scouts and the town’s Loaves and Fishes foodbank. The Co-op’s Local Community Fund aims to make a difference in local communities and has successfully supported various causes across South Lanarkshire. The 6th East Kilbride Scouts received £1986 while Loaves and Fishes were awarded £2562.
The impact of the funding goes beyond just financial support, with 95% of causes expressing that they felt more connected with their community through participating in the Co-op’s Local Community Fund. By simply selecting the local cause they wish to support via Co-op’s Membership App, Co-op members play a crucial role in driving the amount received by the chosen cause.
Since 2020, the Co-op’s Local Community Fund has shared over £58 million with more than 20,500 community groups throughout the UK, creating stronger and more resilient communities locally. According to Rebecca Birkbeck, the director of community and member participation at Co-op, the funding aims to promote healthy, strong, and viable communities in towns, villages, and cities across the UK.
The funding is further boosted through the ‘Winners Share It All’ prize draw, offering 10 chances each month to win £5000 for causes and £500 for Co-op members. This initiative not only provides financial support but also helps in raising awareness and building stronger community connections.
In conclusion, the funding provided by the Co-op’s Local Community Fund is instrumental in supporting grassroots organisations and initiatives that work towards making a positive impact in their local communities. By empowering community groups and causes, the Co-op is contributing to the creation of a more connected and supportive society.
