Waitrose issues urgent ‘do not eat’ warning over takeaway meal

Waitrose has issued an urgent warning to customers about a takeaway meal bag that poses a health risk. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a recall notice for the Waitrose Chinese Takeaway Bag for two. The FSA stated that the product contains molluscs, which are not listed on the label and could be harmful to individuals with mollusc allergies. Customers who have purchased the affected bags, with use-by dates ranging from September 21, 2024, to December 4, 2024, are advised to return them to any Waitrose store for a full refund.
The FSA announced on December 4, 2024, that the recall extends to products within the specified date range that may be stored in customers’ freezers. Waitrose has contacted allergy support organizations to inform their members about the recall and has issued notices to customers explaining the reason for the recall. Customers allergic to molluscs are urged not to consume the product and to return it to a Waitrose branch for a refund. For more information, customers can contact Waitrose Customer Care at 0800 188 884, Option 4.
The FSA highlighted that in cases where a food product poses a risk to consumers, it may be withdrawn or recalled due to missing or incorrect allergy labelling. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of accurate food labeling to prevent health risks and allergic reactions.
Food safety is paramount, and it is crucial for retailers to promptly address any potential risks to consumers. Waitrose’s swift response and cooperation with the FSA demonstrate their commitment to customer safety and satisfaction. Customers are encouraged to stay informed about product recalls and to prioritize their health and well-being when consuming food products.
