We must win the war against Putin as tensions rise in Ukraine

Tensions rise in Ukraine as concerns about Putin’s aggression mount, emphasized by US missiles striking Russian territory for the first time. President Biden’s decision to support Ukraine with Western-made weapons showcases the gravity of the situation as Putin’s invasion continues for over 1000 days. The US and UK have stood in solidarity with Ukraine against Putin’s unprovoked attacks, driven by false claims about NATO. President Zelensky acknowledges the unwavering support from the West, despite concerns about the alliance’s future with the election of Donald Trump.

Trump’s soft stance on Putin raises doubts about his commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty, with suspicions that he may seek a compromise that favours Russia. Conversely, Biden’s approach of equipping Ukraine to combat Russian aggression and promoting Russia’s retreat from Ukrainian territory offers a more promising solution. The UK’s steadfast support for Ukraine is crucial in preventing Putin from further destabilising the region and maintaining NATO’s strength in the face of potential scepticism or withdrawal by the US.

Putin’s ambitions to reclaim former Soviet territories, starting with Ukraine, pose a significant threat that must be countered collectively. Allowing Putin to succeed in Ukraine could embolden further aggression towards neighbouring countries, making the need to defeat Russia imperative for the security of all. Central to this effort is upholding Ukraine’s freedom and thwarting Putin’s revisionist agenda, which sees independent nations as extensions of Russian territory.

Support for Ukraine is not just a regional issue; it is a global imperative to uphold democracy, deter aggression, and secure peace in Europe. The ongoing conflict highlights the importance of maintaining a united front against authoritarian regimes and defending the sovereignty of all nations. As tensions persist, continued support for Ukraine and a firm stance against Putin’s aggression are vital for ensuring stability and security in the region.
