West Lothian man arrested after large dog ‘mauls pet to death in front of owner’


A man in West Lothian has been arrested after a large dog allegedly mauled a pet to death in front of its owner in Broxburn. The incident occurred around 12.45 am on Saturday, November 30 on Holygate Place. Neighbours were disturbed by the sounds of a small dog in distress during the early hours of the morning.

Police Scotland confirmed that a dog suffered serious injuries in the attack and unfortunately passed away after being hurried to a nearby veterinarian. The dog responsible for the mauling was taken to kennels by authorities. Additionally, a 30-year-old male individual was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure following the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson stated that they received a report of a dog attacking another dog in the Holygate Place area of Broxburn. The injured dog was rushed to a vet but tragically did not survive. The owner of the attacking dog, a 51-year-old man, has been arrested and charged in connection with the Dangerous Dogs Act. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
