Whitelee Windfarm’s Nae Fireworks Night event for worried dog owners returns

Whitelee Windfarm’s annual Nae Fireworks Night event, aimed at offering a safe and tranquil environment for concerned dog owners during Bonfire Night celebrations, is set to return. The event, now in its eighth year, has gained popularity with over 2000 visitors attending the windfarm located on the outskirts of East Kilbride. Dogs and their owners can enjoy the 130km of trails at the windfarm, providing a peaceful escape from the loud noises and stress of Bonfire Night.
The event, organised by Whitelee Countryside Rangers, invites visitors to join in on Tuesday, November 5, from 5.30pm-10pm. Attendees can take leisurely walks with other dog lovers and explore charity stalls, including the Scottish SPCA for information and advice. The visitor centre will be open from 6pm-9pm, offering hot drinks and cake. To reduce waste, it is recommended to bring a reusable cup for a discount.
New additions this year include coffee vans at specific locations and portaloos for convenience. Organisers aim to maintain a firework-free zone, although it cannot be guaranteed entirely. Keeping dogs on leads is advised during the event. Spaces are limited, and certain restrictions will be in place to ensure all visitors can access facilities as needed.
This annual event provides a comforting alternative for dog owners concerned about their pets’ reactions to fireworks. It fosters a sense of community among like-minded individuals while prioritising the well-being of furry companions.
In summary, Whitelee Windfarm’s Nae Fireworks Night event is a compassionate initiative that acknowledges the anxiety fireworks may cause to pets, offering a peaceful retreat for dog owners during the celebratory season. It emphasises camaraderie and consideration for animal welfare, providing a model for inclusive and mindful community events.
