Wishaw bike company, aimed at helping young people into cycling, hailed at top awards ceremony

A Wishaw bike company, focused on getting young people involved in cycling, received high praise at a prestigious awards ceremony. Socialtrack was honoured with the Community Program of the Year award at the Scottish Mountain Bike Awards for its exceptional efforts in Wishaw and the surrounding areas. Over the past year, Socialtrack has organised 40 holiday hunger pump track sessions for more than 200 young individuals, consistently conducted an alternative schooling programme involving mountain biking, mechanics, and BMX skills for over 180 school students weekly, facilitated an inclusive LGBTQ+ group with over 40 participants every week, and distributed bikes to the community.
Initially established in a garage to support the opening of the Wishawhill Wood Pump Track in 2018, Socialtrack has a unique focus on addressing poverty in the area. The organisation is dedicated to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for underprivileged children to participate in cycling, believing in the positive impact cycling can have on both physical and mental health. Socialtrack members Dan Scott and Andy Higgins were thrilled to accept the award, with Dan expressing surprise at the win and highlighting the company’s commitment to making a difference.
Moreover, Socialtrack played a key role in hosting the 2019 Red Bull UK Qualifier for the World Pump Track Championships at Wishawhill Wood, showcasing their dedication to promoting cycling in the community. Looking ahead, the company has ambitious plans for the future, including selling bikes from their hire fleet at affordable prices starting from November 30. This initiative aims to make cycling more accessible to individuals of all ages and backgrounds, furthering Socialtrack’s mission of using cycling as a tool for social change.
