Woman Shares 10 Symptoms of Rare Cancer Misdiagnosed as ‘Anxiety’

Saskia Clark, a 24-year-old online content creator, recently revealed her journey of being diagnosed with a rare form of thyroid cancer after doctors initially mistook her symptoms for anxiety. Despite facing persistent symptoms like chest pain, bowel issues, heavy periods, and fatigue, Saskia’s determination to uncover the root cause led to her eventual diagnosis.

After multiple doctor’s appointments, a CT scan revealed lumps on her lymph nodes that were later biopsied. Saskia was diagnosed with Medullary thyroid cancer, an uncommon type that forms inside the thyroid. In a TikTok video, she highlighted 10 symptoms she experienced, including chest pain, irregular bowel movements, intense period pain, fatigue, dry nails, insomnia, and more. She urged viewers to consult healthcare professionals when experiencing concerning symptoms.

Thyroid cancer is relatively rare in the UK, and symptoms can vary widely. According to NHS guidelines, symptoms of thyroid cancer may include a hard lump in the neck, hoarse voice, difficulty swallowing, and pain in the neck area. Additional signs such as redness, changes in bowel habits, weight loss, and a persistent cough should also be addressed with a GP to rule out any potential health concerns.

It’s crucial to remain vigilant about changes in your body and seek medical advice if unusual symptoms persist. Saskia’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of advocating for your health and not dismissing persistent symptoms as solely attributed to stress or anxiety.

As symptoms of cancer can often mimic other health issues, being proactive in discussing concerns with healthcare providers can lead to earlier detection and better outcomes. Regular health check-ups and open communication with medical professionals are key in maintaining overall well-being and catching any potential health issues early on. Remember, your health is a priority, and it’s essential to listen to your body and seek proper medical attention when needed.
