Young Cubs from Burnside enjoy the great outdoors during weekend away at camp

Young Cubs from Burnside had an exciting weekend away at camp, immersing themselves in the great outdoors. The 20-strong troop had a memorable stay at Lapwing Lodge in the Gleniffer Braes near Paisley. This camp marked the 113th Burnside Cubs’ third camp of the year, offering a unique experience for many young attendees who were away from their families for the first time. Despite this, all the young participants coped remarkably well, gaining valuable life skills, boosting their confidence, and building resilience.

Holly Belcher, Assistant Cub Scout Leader, expressed her joy at the adventure-packed weekend filled with activities suitable for all. From archery to laser tag in the woods, nerf wars, spooky crafts, and earning their Entertainer badge by showcasing Halloween themed sketches and jokes, the Cubs had a blast. Cub Leader Anne Small observed the camaraderie and support among the Cubs as they enjoyed sharing jokes and riddles, fostering a spirit of teamwork and fun.

For many Cubs aged from 8 to 10-and-a-half, this weekend camp offered a new and enriching experience, further solidifying their bond with scouting. A few weeks earlier, Cubs from the 113th and 137th Scout packs in Rutherglen ventured to Fife for an exhilarating weekend camp, joining hundreds of peers from across Scotland. The camp, named ‘The Howling,’ was a resounding success, fostering new friendships and a sense of unity among the Cubs.

Looking ahead, Squirrels from the 113th Burnside are gearing up for an indoor camp in February, while Beavers are set for a weekend retreat in the spring. These upcoming adventures promise more opportunities for growth and exploration within the scouting community. Scouts like those from Burnside exemplify the values of friendship, teamwork, and outdoor exploration that are synonymous with the scouting movement.

In conclusion, the Burnside Cubs’ weekend camp was not just a getaway but a transformative experience that nurtured young minds and spirits. As they continue their scouting journey, these Cubs are not just exploring the great outdoors but also discovering their potential, building lasting friendships, and creating cherished memories that will stay with them for a lifetime.
