When Aaron asked why his son selected that particular fabric pattern, Sam’s answer revealed how carefully he had planned the project.
“Why I chose the pattern is, it just looks cool to me. It stands out to me,” Sam explained.
He then added another reason behind the choice.
“And it goes with jeans like you usually wear.”
For Aaron, that detail made the gift even more special. The shirt wasn’t simply a sewing assignment completed for class. It was something Sam intentionally created for his father, taking into account his personal style and the clothes he normally wears.
Aaron later revealed that he was so impressed by the gift that he wore it out to dinner the very next night while celebrating his own father’s birthday.
Being The Only Boy In Class Doesn’t Bother Him
One detail that stood out to many people was the fact that Sam is currently the only boy in his sewing class.
For some children, standing out from the crowd can be intimidating. Aaron says that has never stopped his son from pursuing what he enjoys.
“He’s the only boy there but he doesn’t care. That doesn’t stop him. He just loves it,” he said.
His parents have made a point of encouraging his interests and allowing him to pursue the hobbies that make him happy. Aaron also praised the environment provided by the Franklin Mill Store, describing it as a place where Sam has been able to learn and grow.
The support at home and in class has helped him continue developing his skills while focusing on what he enjoys rather than worrying about what others think.

“The comments from around [the world], the support, it’s tangible, it’s palpable and it means the world to him. He reads those. I show him the positive comments and they make an enormous difference,” Aaron said.
The encouragement appears to have given Sam a noticeable boost in confidence. Aaron later shared that his son seemed much more willing to show off his work after reading the positive feedback.
“That caught me off guard,” Aaron said. “He hasn’t wanted to make things for people. You can even see in my first video, he’s nervous. He has a lot of anxiety and doesn’t want to disappoint anyone. But after reading all the positive comments, he was like, ‘Well, I can do it!’”
He Already Has Another Project Planned
For many children, completing a project this ambitious would be enough to warrant a long break.
Not Sam.
After seeing how much his father loved the shirt, he quickly started thinking about his next creation.
According to Aaron, his mother will soon be receiving a handmade gift of her own.
“He doesn’t want his mother to feel left out, so now he’s working on a shirt for her too,” Aaron said.
For a boy who started sewing because he admired the handmade gifts created by a family member, it seems fitting that he is now creating those same kinds of memories for the people closest to him. Millions of people may have watched the viral TikTok video, but for Aaron, the best part was much simpler.
